Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection is not optional in kitchens -- it is a code requirement, and it is one of the most important safety features in any kitchen. GFCI outlets detect tiny imbalances in electrical current that can indicate current is flowing through a person, and they cut power in a fraction of a second to prevent electrocution.

A dedicated circuit is a circuit in your electrical panel that serves only one outlet or appliance. No other devices share it. For kitchen appliances, dedicated circuits are not a luxury -- they are a requirement for major loads and a smart move for moderate ones.

When multiple appliances share a circuit, the combined load can exceed the circuit's amperage rating, tripping the breaker. That is annoying.
